Radiographic progression in rheumatoid arthritis.

چکیده
Radiographic progression is an important outcome measure in clinical trials and observational studies with patients with rheuamtoid arthritis. In this article we describe several aspects of measuring radiographic progression. We introduce the scoring method, discuss scoring methodology and issues regarding reliability of scoring, describe the relation between disease activity, radiographic progression and physical function, and introduce the concept of repair, a novelty in the field of measuring structural changes in RA.

Structural damage in rheumatoid arthritis as visualized through radiographs
Several agents show an effect on reducing radiographic progression in rheumatoid arthritis. It is tempting to retrospectively compare the effects of these agents on radiographic progression across clinical trials. However, there are several limitations in interpreting and comparing radiographic results across clinical trials. These limitations, including study designs, patient characteristics, ...
متن کاملA high serum level of eotaxin (CCL 11) is associated with less radiographic progression in early rheumatoid arthritis patients
INTRODUCTION Prognosis in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is difficult to assess. The aim of this study was to examine whether serum levels of a spectrum of cytokines were predictive of radiographic progression in early RA patients. METHODS A total of 82 early RA patients (disease duration < 1 year) were followed for 12 months. Clinical assessments, X-rays of hands and magnetic resonance imaging (M...
متن کاملPlasma levels of leptin and visfatin in rheumatoid arthritis patients; is there any relationship with joint damage?
Objective (s):Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic systemic inflammatory disorder, primarily targeting the synovium and articular cartilage that leads to joint damage. Recent reports have suggested the role of adipocytokines in mediating joint damage; however it still is a matter of debate. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between serum values of adiopocytokines (lept...
متن کاملUrinary interleukin-6 as a predictor of radiographic progression in rheumatoid arthritis: A 3-year evaluation
Previously, we demonstrated that the urine proteome signature of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) reflects inflammation-related cellular processes. Here, we measured interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, and chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2) concentrations in the urine of RA patients and prospectively investigated their role in predicting RA activity and prognosis. One hundred seventy-three RA patients and ...
متن کاملCurrent smoking status is a strong predictor of radiographic progression in early rheumatoid arthritis: results from the SWEFOT trial
OBJECTIVES To study clinical predictors for radiographic progression after 1 year in an early rheumatoid arthritis (RA) trial. METHODS In the SWEFOT trial population, disease modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) naïve RA patients started methotrexate; 3-month responders (DAS28 <3.2) continued (n=147), while non-responders were randomised to addition of sulfasalazine+hydroxychloroquine (n=130)...
